Beginner Fencing Camp, Ages 11-15 - Session 2

July 22-26, 2019
1-4 p.m.
The modern sport of fencing, descended from the ancient art of the duel, uniquely blends the mental and the physical. Fencing trains minds and bodies, developing fitness, agility, critical thinking, sportsmanship, and competitiveness. It builds strength, stamina, and reflexes, while teaching students to think analytically and solve problems. Fencing helps students reach their full potential both on and off the fencing strip.
AFC's summer camps offer fun and challenge to young fencers of all skill levels. Fencers learn footwork, bladework, fencing tactics and strategy, as well as fencing rules, protocol, and history. Camp sessions combine games, drills, and bouting to develop both fencing skill and fitness, with a focus on safety and good sportsmanship.
For ages 11-15, the camp offers drills, games, and conditioning suitable for pre-teens and teens. Fencers learn footwork, blade positions, simple and complex attacks and parries, and bouting tactics. Fencers also learn to referee bouts.
- Fencers aged 11 can join this camp, or the camp for ages 8-11
- Maximum 20 fencers per camp.
- Minimum 8 fencers per camp. If fewer than 8 participants are registered for a camp three weeks prior to the first day of camp, a session may be canceled, and registration fees will be fully refunded.
- All equipment is provided.
- Fencers should wear a T shirt, sweatpants (no shorts), and sport shoes to camp.
